Terms of Service

Last updated 10 August 2026. This covers the Planwell iPhone app, the web app, and planwell.me.

The short version

  • Planwell is a personal tracker. It is not a doctor, an accountant, or a lawyer, and neither is the AI inside it.
  • What you track is yours. We do not sell it, and you can take it with you or have it deleted whenever you like.
  • Pro is billed by Apple and renews on its own until you cancel it in the App Store. Refunds go through Apple, not us.
  • Be sensible with the service, and we will keep it running as best a small team can.
  • Questions about any of this: ai@sumletter.com.

The agreement

Planwell is built and operated by Sumletter. These terms are the agreement between you and Sumletter for using the app and the site. By creating an account or using Planwell, you accept them. If you do not, the honest answer is not to use it.

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and who processes it. It is part of this agreement.

Your account

You need an account to use Planwell. Give us a real email address, keep your password to yourself, and tell us at ai@sumletter.com if you think someone else has got into your account. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.

You must be at least 13 to have an account. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian to agree to these terms on your behalf. One account per person, and it is yours alone to use.

What Planwell is, and what it is not

Planwell is a place to record things about your own life: your weight, your sleep, your meals, your habits, your trips, your subscriptions, and whatever else you switch on. It shows you your own numbers back.

It is not a medical device and not a health service. Nothing in the app, including anything the AI says, is medical, nutritional, psychological, legal, tax, or financial advice. Do not use it to diagnose or treat anything, and do not delay speaking to a professional because of something you read in it. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

The AI assistant

The assistant reads the slice of your data that is relevant to your question and answers in plain language. It can also create, change and delete entries when you ask it to. Check what it saved. It gets things wrong sometimes, and it can misread a photo, a date or a number.

Decisions you make off the back of what it tells you are yours. We cannot promise the answers are accurate, complete, or right for your situation, and the AI is provided as a convenience rather than as advice.

Do not use the assistant to generate anything unlawful, abusive, or designed to attack the service. We can rate limit or switch off AI features for an account that is being used that way, or if the cost of running them for one account becomes unreasonable.

What you put in

Your entries stay yours. We do not claim ownership of anything you track, write, dictate, or photograph. You give us only the permission we need to actually run the service for you: to store your entries, show them back to you across your devices, back them up, and pass the relevant parts to the processors listed in the Privacy Policy so features like the assistant and voice logging work.

We do not use your entries to train any AI model, ours or anyone else's. You are responsible for what you put in, including having the right to upload any photo you attach.

You can export or delete your data at any time by emailing ai@sumletter.com. Planwell is not a backup service, so keep your own copy of anything you could not stand to lose.

Free, Pro, and how billing works

Planwell has a free tier that is genuinely usable, and a Pro subscription that unlocks every mini app, unlimited dashboard widgets, and the extras listed on the pricing section of the site. Current prices are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency.

Apple takes the payment, not us.Pro is sold as an in-app purchase, so it is charged to your Apple Account and governed by Apple's terms as well as these. Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the then current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancel any time in Settings, your Apple Account, Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next charge and you keep Pro until the period you have paid for runs out.

Refunds are handled by Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue them and we cannot see your payment details. Ask us anyway if something has gone wrong and we will help where we can.

The lifetime plan is a one off payment that unlocks Pro for as long as Planwell exists as a service. It is not a promise that the app will run forever, and it does not cover a different product we might build later. If we ever have to shut Planwell down, we will give you notice and time to export everything.

If we change prices, the new price applies from your next renewal and Apple will tell you before it takes effect. Your existing period is never repriced. Free features may move between tiers as the app grows, but we will not quietly gut the free tier to force an upgrade.

Fair use

Please do not:

  • break the law with it, or use it to store or send anything unlawful, hateful, or abusive
  • try to get at another account's data, or poke at the service looking for a way in
  • scrape it, automate it at volume, resell access to it, or run it through a bot farm
  • reverse engineer the app or work around the limits on the free tier
  • upload someone else's personal or medical data without their say so

Security research is welcome if you tell us first at ai@sumletter.comand do not touch anyone else's data.

Apple Health and other services

Planwell can read steps, walking and running distance, and sleep from Apple Health, only if you allow it, and it never writes anything back. It also looks up public metadata for films, shows, books, job postings and house listings from third party sources. Those services set their own terms and we cannot promise their data is accurate or that they will stay available.

Changes, downtime, and endings

We add, change and remove features as the app develops. We will not break something important without warning where we can help it, but the service is provided as it is on the day you use it.

Planwell depends on hosting, App Store distribution and AI providers we do not control, so we cannot promise it will always be up or always be fast. We do not offer an uptime guarantee.

You can stop using Planwell whenever you like and ask us to delete your account. We can suspend or close an account that is breaking these terms, that is being used to harm someone, or where we are required to by law. Except for serious abuse, we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your data. If we close your account without cause and you have paid for a period you cannot use, ask us and we will sort out a fair outcome.

No warranties

Planwell is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or that the numbers, syncs and AI outputs in it are accurate.

If you are a consumer, this does not affect the rights you have under the law of your own country, which we cannot and do not try to exclude.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Sumletter is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, for lost profits, or for lost or corrupted data, arising out of your use of Planwell. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or £50.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Terms Apple requires us to include

This agreement is between you and Sumletter only. It is not with Apple, and Apple is not responsible for Planwell or its contents.

Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Planwell. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you, if there was one. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to Planwell.

Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to Planwell, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation. Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending, settling or discharging any third party claim that Planwell infringes that party's intellectual property rights.

You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as terrorist supporting, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You must also comply with any third party terms that apply when you use the app.

Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third party beneficiaries of these terms and, once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third party beneficiary.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of it stands. Not enforcing something straight away does not mean we have given up the right to.

Changes to these terms

We will update the date at the top when these terms change, and for anything that materially affects you we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Carrying on using Planwell after that means the updated terms apply. If you do not agree with a change, stop using the app and ask us to delete your account.
